Iaito without Hi, made in Japan:
I have been loocking for an iaito realistically emulating a live japanese sword, for quiet a while. Here is one that comes pretty close to a katana in terms of balance, weight and overall geometry. It is built considerably stronger than normal iaito blades. Fittings really do fit! The intention of the japanase manufacturer was it to create a training sword for use in Iaido, as well as for light contact use, as one come across in kendo-kata. The blade is unsharpened and not made of steel, like all japanese made iaitos. A positive feature is, that the blade has no groove, as most real japanese swords in the past did not. This design is well established and apreciated among many japanese kendoka and iaidoka. This sword is also very well suited for the techniques of Toyama-Ryu!
Handle: 24,5 cm, black cotton tsuka-ito, real sharkskin over wooden core, Musashi-style tsuba, black gloss saya.
Available blade lenghts:
2,3-4 shaku (71 cm)
2,4 shaku (73,2 cm)
Blades are made of highly flex-resistant alloy!

Bokken with Saya:
The first time I came across this bokken with saya at the occasion of an iaijutsu seminar in Austria, a few years ago. The japanese sensei used this sword to demonstrate the original context of particular iai-katas with partners and for other partner forms like kumitachi. The handle is of oval shape like the of a katana and the blade part features a shinogi-line, mune and yokote. The black plastic saya has a kurigata for a sageo (sageo not included). The tsuba is also made of plastic and is fixed to the bokken with a rubber ring.
This is a decent training weapon and I use it, myself, with pleasure. You buy it once and it will last you for years. A pleasent and minimalist form-follows-function approach to a decent training sword.
