Custom orders of Japanese swords

During my last trip to Japan I was locking for serious and experienced cooperation partners, in order to facilitate orders of custom made Japanese swords with the practitioner of the sword arts in mind.

My Japanese partner himself practices Iaido and is a collector of antique and modern Japanese swords. Together we can offer you valuable assistance in having the right sword made for you, translating your requirements to the sword smiths and the other craftsmen involved. We know the options, as well as the limiting factors of the art to consult you, finally holding the best result in hand.

When ordering a genuine Japanese sword from a good contemporary smith do consider that these swords may have a good second hand value next to the pleasure it is to own and handle a genuine Japanese blade. Depending on the particular smith’s future career one can even make a profit over time. Well-kept and properly treated Japanese swords have proved to last for centuries and be valuable objects of virtue for generations to come. Therefore, we only offer traditionally made blades made in accordance with the strict Japanese laws to guarantee for high quality standards.


Procedure:

Roughly tell us, what kind of sword you have in mind. We will figure out how to best suite your requirements, contact the relevant smith and get a price offer.

Here are some key points we need to know:

- What sword-style do you practice?
- What do you mainly need your sword for (Kata, Tameshigiri, Kumitachi)?
- Length and weight?
- Fittings?
- Budget!

Pricing:

We are working together with many smiths. Their prices do vary a lot depending on their ranking and of course your demand. If the required job is harder to carry out the price will naturally be higher. Starting price for a polished and mounted sword of standard length and weight will start from around EURO 5900,-. If the smiths is more famous, be prepared to pay anything up from EURO 12000,- . A decent sword for the exponent of Iaido in a more standard version should be doable within the lower price range. Prices can also vary relative to currency fluctuations.

To keep the pricing transparent for you, Katsujinken-Ya will only ad a 20% service charge incl. VAT upon each custom Japanese sword order.

Shipping costs, taxes and duties  are extra will have to be covered by the client. Full payment is due once a definite order is placed. Note, there is no return for custom ordered swords!


How long will it take until I have my sword?

It will usually take about six months to complete the order. Sometimes it can take less or more. We will keep you updated!
